What is the hands-free law?

  • The law prohibits the use of hand-held electronic devices capable of providing voice or data communication while driving or temporarily halted in traffic for a stop sign, traffic signal or other momentary delays
  • This includes cell phones, GPS, tablets, iPods, iPads or other devices that require data entry
  • Emergency calls to 911 or other public safety agencies will be allowed
  • Bluetooth or other hands-free electronic devices will be allowed

The good news is there’s an easy, and effective, solution: a BlueParrott Bluetooth headset from VXi. With a BlueParrott headset, you can keep both hands on the wheel while you talk.

14 states prohibit the use of handheld cell phones while driving, and 46 states have passed texting bans. The latest state to adopt the hands-free law is our home state of New Hampshire (effective July 1, 2015). And Federal Rule FMCSA 35-11, passed in November 2011, prohibits ALL truckers from using handheld cell phones, on any road in the United States.
